Deepening its foothold in Bostons vibrant Financial District, Burns & Levinson LLP, a full-service business law firm, has signed a multi-year lease renewal and expanded its office space to more than 100,000 square feet, with significant expansion options, signaling its commitment to growth and unmatched client service.
Represented by Meredith & Grews Boston Brokerage group, Burns & Levinson will expand its premises by 14,000 square feet to a total of 103,052 square feet at 125 Summer St. The firm, located at the Summer Street address since 1990, now occupies the fifth through ninth floors in the building.
The firm needed a sophisticated landlord that could accommodate our plans for dynamic growth for the next 10 years or more at the transportation hub of the Financial District, said David P. Rosenblatt, managing partner at Burns & Levinson. Equity Office and Blackstone worked closely with us to forge a plan that would incorporate both immediate expansion and substantial options for growth. Burns & Levinson is very happy to continue our relationship with Equity Office and The Blackstone Group. They worked with us to make this happen.
Burns & Levinson, founded in 1960, is updating and renovating office space, building a new conference center and creating more usable space for attorneys and clients. The amenities will truly be first-rate and will serve both our attorneys and our clients well, Rosenblatt continued. Burns & Levinson has been at this location for 18 years and we expect to be here for at least another decade. With Big Dig construction complete, we are surrounded by acres of green space, parks and amenities that truly brighten the area.
Executive Vice President Ronald K. Perry, Senior Vice Presidents Francis X. Durand and John A. Carroll, Jr., and Vice President Lawrence T. Epstein of Meredith & Grews Boston Brokerage group represented Burns & Levinson in the transaction. Andrew Hoar, president of CB Richard Ellis/New England, represented the landlord, working with Managing Director Andrew Maher and Managing Director Ryan Enright of Equity Office, the owner and manager of 125 Summer St. Specifics of the lease transaction were not disclosed.
Burns & Levinsons decision to expand at its current location in Boston also comes at a time when the firm has placed continued emphasis on stellar client service offerings through all of its offices in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Rosenblatt said the firm has created a solid foundation from which to serve all of its business interests and clients nationally and internationally. Client service, which has always been a trademark of Burns & Levinson, will rise to a new level this year, said Rosenblatt. In addition, in an era when people are putting greater emphasis on accessibility to services of all kinds, being in the part of the city that is most accessible to all of our clients is important to us.
In recent years, Burns & Levinson has made significant inroads with a number of practice areas, with much growth in the Corporate and Litigation Groups, strengthening its International Practice, creating a Sports Practice Group, and enhancing its Intellectual Property and Real Estate Groups. The firm also is renowned regionally for having one of the most robust Private Clients practice areas with unique and comprehensive probate, divorce and estate planning services.
Our expansion mirrors our rapidly growing practice areas so its critical that we augment our existing headquarters, said Rosenblatt.
The firm has also gained widespread recognition for being involved in critical issues such as environmental awareness initiatives and support of K-12 education. One of the firms partners sits on the Massachusetts Bar Associations Energy and Environmental Task Force and the firm is a signature firm for the MBA Lawyers Eco-Challenge Pledge. Burns & Levinson continues with its third year of the Power of an Ideaฎ Scholarship Contest for Boston public high school and charter school students and is entering its 10th year of their partnership with Brighton High School.
These are a few initiatives that embody the spirit of the firm, said Rosenblatt. We look forward to pursuing many exciting new developments in 2008 and our staff, clients, and prospects will see those unfold over the next several months.
