While The New York Times currently publishes the International Weekly, an international edition of news and features, in 28 newspapers in 25 countries, the Romanian edition of the Book Review is content from The Times made available through a licensing arrangement.

“The New York Times is delighted to extend its coverage of books to a new international audience,” said Sam Tanenhaus, editor of the Book Review. “While the number of English-reading persons is growing worldwide, there is no better way for The New York Times to maximize its readership than to be available in the local language.”

“The New York Times Book Review is the publication most often mentioned on the covers of American books translated and published in Romania,” said Sergiu Crupenschi, managing director of Editura Univers. “The translation of the Book Review will bring to Romania the expertise of critics and writers who are reviewing the most important books published in United States and around the world.”

The Romanian edition of The New York Times Book Review will be sold on newsstands and in bookstores in Romania. The initial print run will be 40,000 copies. At a future date, it will include a special section devoted to the Romanian book market.

The Times reaches 19.1 million unduplicated readers in the United States every month via the weekday and Sunday newspaper, and also via NYTimes.com (sources: Nielsen Online @Plan Winter 2007/2008; Nielsen Online NetView, US Home and Work, November 2007; and MRI Fall 2007).
