Pita began her art career in her hometown of Havana, Cuba and exhibited her first painting in 1956 at the Havana Jack Club. After completing several pieces of work and becoming quite recognizable for her exceptional talent, Pita's career was suddenly halted for more than 10 years due to a new Cuban regime that greatly limited her resources for art supplies. During that time, Pita turned her focus to musical composition and realized a new-found success in the creation of a unique sound all her own.

In 1967, Pita fled Cuba for the United States and established her home in Tampa, FL, with her three children. She pursued the American dream of freedom and again resumed her passion for art and for travel, visiting many foreign countries. Since the time of her first portrait, Pita has completed a collection of hundreds of paintings of leading religious, political and prominent societal figures, and at age 78, continues to enjoy a career in the fine arts.

For many years, Pita has anticipated this moment to give thanks to the United States of America for its gift of freedom and wanted to do so in a charitable way that would provide good to others. She selected the American Red Cross due to its work and mission as a symbol of the United States, and hopes her collection of work for sale that evening will raise a significant donation. During the event, Pita will also be premiering the first look at the documentary, "Remembering La Havana" which she wrote, directed and produced.
