TOTAL and Saudi Aramco, two of the largest global energy companies, have joined Energistics, the upstream oil and gas open standards consortium. Their memberships capped a successful year in which twenty-seven new members including energy companies, oilfield service companies, professional service companies and software companies joined the Energistics community to participate in the development and deployment of collaborative data exchange technologies. The Energistics membership community now consists of 89 global upstream organizations.
Randy Clark, President and CEO of Energistics, said, “We warmly welcome TOTAL and Saudi Aramco back into our community. They represent two of the most innovative and technically competent organizations in the upstream oil and gas industry. Their adoption of and involvement in Energistics standards such as WITSML and PRODML means that our message about the benefits of global open standards is being heard and embraced." Mr. Clark added, “After several years of modest membership growth, we are pleased that the significant 2007 increase in membership included many new members from diverse parts of our industry and from many corners of the world that had not previously participated in our open standards development process and consortium.”
In addition to new members, Energistics also added two new Directors to its Board; Mr. Philippe Malzac, Vice President, E&P Information Systems of TOTAL and Mr. James (Jamey) Webster, CEO of Knowledge Systems. Mr. Malzac takes an unfilled Board seat while Mr. Webster assumes the unexpired term of the Board seat formerly held by Mr. Jim Bridges, the Chairman of Knowledge Systems. Mr. Bridges has served Energistics as an active member of the Board of Directors since 2005. The Energistics Board of Directors now includes representatives of seven oil and five non-oil organizations including: Accenture, BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Halliburton/Landmark, Knowledge Systems, ONGC, Pioneer Natural Resources, Schlumberger, Shell, TOTAL and the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Mr. Clark, Energistics President & CEO, also serves on the Board.
Commenting on Mr. Malzac and Mr. Webster joining the Board, Mike Benjamin, Chairman of the Energistics Board and International Clients Director of Schlumberger, said, “We are rapidly evolving our Board to be active in supporting the global adoption and deployment of the freely-available Energistics open data exchange standards. Both Philippe and Jamey bring extensive experience in technology as well as outstanding business acumen to our Board. With their help, we will be able to continue to expand the Energistics standards implementations globally.”
