Alterpoint Extends Vyatta Ready Ecosystem with Network Management
Publish Date : 10/2/2007 10:38:00 PM   Source : Networking News Onlypunjab.com

Vyatta, the leader in Linux-based networking, today announced that AlterPoint, a leading provider of network governance software, has joined the Vyatta Ready™ partner program. AlterPoint has developed adapters that allow Vyatta customers to manage network configuration and change through a centralized interface. The adapters work with both the open-source ZipTie toolkit and AlterPoint's commercial NetworkAuthority solution.

"Our software complements Vyatta's enterprise-ready networking products by offering our joint customers flexible options, from basic configuration inventory management to a full-blown network configuration management database," said Scott Harmon, president and CEO of AlterPoint. "The ability to manage open-source networking products from the same centralized interface provides our customers with greater choice about how they build out their infrastructures, and as a result, helps accelerate adoption of open-source networking."

Vyatta combines enterprise-class routing and security capabilities into an integrated, reliable, and commercially supported software solution, delivering twice the performance of proprietary network solutions at half the price. Paired with ZipTie or NetworkAuthority, the adapters enable network engineers and administrators to use automation and policy-based management to discover new Vyatta devices, back up configurations, and manage network changes related to Vyatta systems. ZipTie, NetworkAuthority, and the AlterPoint adapters for Vyatta also let network teams address security and compliance regulations, hardware over-provisioning, labor specialization, and availability requirements.

The Vyatta Ready partner program has created an ecosystem around the company's secure, open-source routing/firewall/VPN solution to accelerate industry-wide adoption. The program targets value-added resellers (VARs) and independent hardware and software vendors (IHVs and ISVs). Customers rely on the Vyatta Ready program for assurance that products and services have been tested, approved, and work well with Vyatta software.

"Customers are deploying Vyatta on standalone 1U hardware, on blade servers, and in virtual machines. It's important to have a good set of tools for managing the resulting infrastructure," said Dave Roberts, vice president of strategy and marketing at Vyatta. "AlterPoint is an important partner for our fast-growing global ecosystem, providing our customers with solutions to help them build, manage, and maintain low-cost, flexible networks."

Availability
The open source ZipTie adapter for Vyatta is downloadable today on ziptie.org. The commercial NetworkAuthority adapter for Vyatta ships with the NetworkAuthority product and is available directly from AlterPoint.
