The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) today announced that more than 30 leading broadband experts have been selected to author the 2008 NCTA Technical PapersTM and to lead this year’s technical sessions at The Cable Show ’08, NCTA’s 57th Annual Convention and International Exposition, May 18-20, 2008 in New Orleans.
Showcasing works of the industry's most distinguished authors, the NCTA Technical Papers™ provide cable telecommunications technologists the opportunity to express new engineering concepts and the science behind them, while preserving their presentations in print as a valuable resource for the engineering community.
“The cable industry has a long and distinguished history of developing new and innovative products and services that provide value to our customers,” said Dan Pike, Chief Technical Officer, GCI Cable, Inc. and chair of this year’s selection committee. “Every year, these writings introduce new and exciting concepts to our industry. Based on this year’s strong collection, the industry is poised to see impressive developments for cable.”
The authors will present the highlights of their papers in one of seven technical sessions at The Cable Show ’08 on topics ranging from advanced advertising to next generation network architecture, including:
TV Advertising 2.0: Merging the Mediums
Expansion Plan: Where Bandwidth Goes from Here
Special Delivery: Strategies and Architectures for Infinite Content
Safe Bet: Emerging Content Security Alternatives
Bit Parts: New Approaches for Managing Video Encoding
On the Move: Technology Enhancements for Mobile Content Delivery

“Each year, the caliber of the technical papers continues to improve. This year’s program features an exceptional group of experts that will share their vision with the cable engineering community,” said William Check, NCTA’s Senior Vice President for Science and Technology. “Anyone interested in learning about the breakthrough ideas and innovative approaches that are advancing cable’s technology foundation should be at the Cable Show in May.”
