Blizzard warnings are up in New York and western New England following a weekend storm that lashed the midwest and northeast regions in the US, reports UPI.
Forecasters warned parts of eastern Massachusetts could receive 30 inches of snow and up to three inches of snow an hour could fall in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Philadelphia. Heavy winds were also expected to create whiteout conditions.
Chicago got hit with 11 inches of snow, Detroit with 12 and Philadelphia with 11 inches.
More than 3,000 flights were cancelled in the midwest and northeast regions. A Polar Air cargo plane slid off a runway at the New York airport but there were no injuries.
New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has activated the emergency operations centre and cancelled days off for his 5,000 sanitation workers who clear streets.
