Afghan President Hamid Karzai is in Iran on a two-day official visit aimed at boosting economic and security ties, reports Xinhua.
Soon after his arrival Wednesday, Karzai held meetings with Iranian Supreme Leader Syed Ali Khamenei and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Khatami.
This is Karzai's first visit to Afghanistan's western neighbour since he assumed office as president last year. He is heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation.
Karzai and Khatami will officially inaugurate a road from Iran's eastern city of Dogharoun to Herat, a major city in western Afghanistan.
The two presidents are also scheduled to inaugurate a power transmission line from northeastern Iran to western Afghanistan.
